EL SEGUNDO - Former NBA player Jon Barry, now a correspondent with ESPN.com reported that Clippers guard Sam Cassell could be headed to the Boston Celtics. Without attribution, Barry suggested that Cassell could help solidfy the Celtics’ point guard position and provide insurance in case Rajon Rondo’s balky back acts up.
However, an individual close to the scene in Boston said there is nothing to reports that the Celtics are pursuing Cassell.
Asked Thursday about persistent rumors to his being traded, Cassell said his agent, David Falk, has not called to inform him about anything imminent.
“But I hear stuff, just like you guys hear stuff,” Cassell said.
Cassell is in the last year of a two-year contract with the Clippers. He is making $6,150,000 this season. Cassell, 38, told The Register recently that he only planned to play another year. He reiterated that statement Thursday.
